How does it work?

[Note: For the sake of this answer, an item may refer to any of the following:
a news story, a classifieds submission, a query asked by some user, anything that is user generated.]
getputs collects data about
how our users interact with the website,
what each of the users/visitors are reading at any given time,
what kind of post does each user submit,
what items did a user comment on,
what items did a user save to the getputs account,
which items were e-mailed the most
Based on this data collection, the automated algorithms try to make an estimation of which of the items are the hottest and most informative in a given time frame.
Thus, even if a visitor just visits the Front-Page, just skimming through the front-page items would let the visitor know what's going on with the world right now.
Think of it as your online newspaper, but where everyone is an editor and a reader
and where the news-pages are intelligent so as to serve content that is customized
for your taste. |

Why should I register?

Registered Users get a variety of features which are not available to our passive readers.
For instance, Registered Users have the ability to save/bookmark articles/news/e-commerce items.
Moreover, getputs automatically serves content personalized to the taste of the registered user in the MyNews Section.

What can I do to get my submissions noticed?
|
The rule of thumb is, always submit content which was useful to you and which you think others will find useful.
The title of a submission plays a very important role in igniting reader interest.
Skillful naming is crucial to getting the attention of getputs readers.
But please don't revert to submitting misleading titles, your submission rights will be revoked if you try to submit inaccurate and misleading titles.

How is a submission's score determined?
|
|
A submissions score is determined based on a proprietary ranking algorithm which takes a variety of factors into consideration.

I liked a submission that some other user had made on getputs, can I share it with my friends and family?

Ofcourse you can, we encourage you to do so. Just click on the E-Mail Image at the bottom of each submission, and fill out the e-mail details (From/To/Message) and click send. Easy, isn't it?

I liked a submission that some other user had made on getputs, can I save/bookmark it for future reference?
|
Indeed you can, provided you are a registered user. Just click on the 'save' button at the bottom of each submission, and you are done.
To access all you saved items, just login to getputs and visit the 'saved' section.

I only want to read submissions related to categories I prefer, how do I achieve this?
|
Yes, registered users have the ability to select the categories they want to read more about.
(So if you are a tech geek who just wants to read about (technology/software/programming/startups), yes you can do it with getputs.)
Login to your getputs account and visit the 'My Account' section, there you can select the categories you would like to see the submissions from.
Once you select your preferred categories, visit the 'My News' section. As simple as that!

I do not want to submit a link, but I want to submit a question, how do I do it?
|
getputs makes it super easy to submit content of any kind.
To submit a question, just leave the "Link" field on the submit page empty.
Fill out your question in the "Title" Field.
Fill out more details about your question in the "Text" field.
Set the Category as "Ask A Query", not mandatory, so that all user query type posts are grouped into one top level category.

Can I send a private message to the person who submitted an item?
|
Private Conversations via E-Mail.
For some categories where a user would want to perform e-commerce operations (buying/selling stuff) or categories like real-estate, matrimonials, dating etc. where there is a need of private conversations, the registered users can communicate with the person who submitted the article via e-mail.
For example, if a user submitted the following item: "A vintage Bike for sale.", and if you are looking to buy a bike, then you can directly send an e-mail to the submitter via getputs.
For private conversations, you won't be able to see the e-mail address of the submitter (unless the submitter explicitly specifies and e-mail address).
